Causes of Anxiety Disorder
What causes anxiety disorders
An anxiety disorder can be the result of many different things. Other disorders caused by anxiety are obsessive-compulsive behavior, post traumatic disorder, panic attacks, GAD and phobias. Understanding each cause and how it affects a person will help you understand the disorder more. People that have an anxiety disorder do not have a mental condition per say.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
This disorder is complicated and the sufferer has repetitive thoughts. The person can have superstitious beliefs, doubts and worries. The person that has OCD becomes obsessed with something and cannot stop thinking about it. For example, if a person with this condition thinks that a car might hit a dog as they pasted it by, they could continue to drive around the block to see if it happened. Their thoughts are stuck on one thing and they cannot forget it. They also have problems processing information. Common obsessions are fear of dirt or germs, fear of harming someone or one’s self and intrusive thoughts of sexual urges.
Phobias
Phobias usually have an underlying issue that causes the fear. One that is afraid of walking outside of the house may have had a stressful event in their life that caused them to retreat into the safety of their home. A traumatic experience can cause a phobia or it may be something in the self-conscious that the person does not even know about or realize. There are over five hundred phobias and counting.
Post Traumatic Disorder
This disorder is another anxiety disorder that has a specific cause. When something in a person’s life causes physical harm or a threat, the body sets off an alarm that causes the anxiety attack. This type of disorder usually results from a childhood event or something that happens in adulthood. After the exposure to the threat, a person will suffer post traumatic disorder.
Panic Attacks
A panic attack can occur when the person is afraid or scared of something. It can also occur if a person is under stress and is feeling overwhelmed. For example, a person riding in the back seat of a car going at a high rate of speed could suffer a panic attack because they are fearful for their safety. They might be afraid that an accident could occur. Panic attacks can happen for many different reasons and can happen to a person even if they have never suffered one before or ever again.
GAD
This type of anxiety disorder is a chronic anxiety. A person that suffers from general anxiety disorder has trouble sleeping, always worries and in some cases, they do not have any idea what is causing the anxiety. The person cannot relax or stop thinking about what might happen. Work, finances and everyday situations can cause anxiety. The person’s mind never seems to rest.
These are just a few causes of anxiety disorders. There are many reasons why a person has an anxiety attack. Whether it is from a specific cause or something that the person does not realize it is still a type of anxiety that needs to be treated.
